E82: Communicating with Dolphins with Dove Joans

Dove Joans, also known as the “Dolphingirl”, has devoted her life towards a noble cause. Making use of her communication skills with animals, and in particular dolphins, Dove serves as an advocate with a compassionate voice for the rights of the ocean and all of its inhabitants. Drawing upon decades of work and research in creative conservation, Dove seeks to educate the public and bring awareness to the importance of understanding other sentient beings, and the need to connect with nature. Not only does this benefit animals and the environment, but it also allows us to ‘access our biology’ in order to increase our health and wellbeing. Using art, science and personal experience, Dove shares her insights through her books such as ‘Dolphin Talk,’ short films like ‘We are Water Spirit,’ and through her online presence where she regularly connects with her followers. By having a unique, holistic approach that connects things that are unapparent to most, Dove helps us understand the bigger picture that is needed for change.

This episode of the ‘Strong Voice’ podcast begins with a brief introduction to Dove Joans and her ideas, and what led to her fascination with dolphins. We then move onto talking about our connection to water, considering it is something that we are largely composed of. Afterwards, we learn about communication as a way of life across species, and especially in relation to dolphins. Dove shares her experiences of when she has been able to tune into other animals to gain a better understanding of their emotional lives. The discussion then turns to how we can (re)connect with ourselves, nature and others, and the benefits of doing so. As always, we hope you enjoy listening, and please let us know your thoughts on social media. Have a great day!
