what is the north coast 500?
The North Coast 500 is a scenic driving route that spans approximately 500 miles (805 kilometers) along the northern coast of Scotland. It is often referred to as NC500 for short.
This route has gained iconic status due to its breathtaking landscapes, rugged coastline, and rich cultural heritage. It takes travelers on a journey through some of the most stunning and remote areas of the Scottish Highlands.
The North Coast 500 showcases the diverse beauty of Scotland, encompassing dramatic mountains, pristine beaches, picturesque lochs, and charming villages. It passes through renowned locations such as Inverness, the Black Isle, Applecross, Ullapool, Durness, John o’ Groats, and many more.

why am I cycling the NC500?
The North Coast 500 has captured the imagination of travellers worldwide, attracting adventurers, road trip enthusiasts, and nature lovers. Its popularity has been further enhanced through social media, with stunning photographs and travel stories showcasing its beauty and allure.
This iconic route provides an opportunity to experience the untamed beauty of the Scottish Highlands, immersing oneself in the tranquility of nature and discovering the hidden gems that lie along the North Coast 500.
I’ll be wild camping along the route (weather permitting) and will hopefully capture some stunning imagery using my camera as I cycle around!
