What is Outfit Moray

Outfit Moray is an outdoor learning and adventure charity, set up in 2003 to deliver adventurous activities to young people in Moray.

In 2012, they set up a social enterprise project, Bike Revolution, with the goal of getting more people out cycling; to reduce the number of cars on the roads, provide a more sustainable future and encourage healthier lifestyles.  These are their aims:

  • To reduce travel-related carbon emissions by increasing the number of people who use cycling rather than driving as a transport method for short journeys.
  • To reduce CO2 emissions by reducing the amount of aluminium and steel being transported to and put in landfill sites by recycling and refurbishing unwanted bikes.
  • To improve the health and fitness levels of local people by getting more people out cycling, by providing affordable bikes and servicing, guided bike rides, and classes on maintaining their bikes.

Outfit Moray’s Bike Revolution (Enterprise) workshop is based at our HQ on Shore Street in Lossiemouth and our two, highly trained and experienced mechanics refurbish donated bikes for resale.  They also provide affordable repairs and servicing, sometimes using high quality, second hand parts from donated bikes, to keep costs down and make cycling more accordable.  They also run bike maintenance classes to give cyclists more confidence and to help them save money on repairs.

As well as this, our Bike Revolution (Delivery) team focus on encouraging cycling in the community.  Their main role is to deliver Cycling Scotland’s Bikeability 1 & 2 in Moray schools, but they also have a fleet of adapted bikes which they use for their adaptive cycling sessions, to make cycling more accessible to those with additional support needs, including the elderly.  During the school holidays, they also run our hugely popular 1-to-1 cycling sessions, where young people aged 4+ can come along for a 45 mins session to support their cycling needs, whether that’s learning to ride or improving their skills, as well as running Bike Skills sessions with ramps and jumps to help improve balance and confidence.
