Why this project is important
Your dream might not be to live in a collective living environment, but there are many golden nuggets of wisdom that we can learn – and apply – into how we live, wherever that may be.
Working together promotes resource efficiency by encouraging the sharing of facilities and resources among community members, resulting in reduced energy and water consumption, waste generation, and individual transportation needs.
Communal living often involves the construction of sustainable infrastructure, such as eco-friendly buildings and renewable energy systems, which significantly minimise environmental impact and carbon emissions. Communal living cultivates a culture of collective decision-making and participatory governance, allowing residents to collaborate on sustainable initiatives and effectively tackle climate challenges.
Through knowledge and skill sharing, communal living communities empower individuals to learn about sustainable practices and implement climate-friendly solutions. One important aspect is social resilience and support systems are implemented, enabling communities to better cope with climate-related disruptions by fostering cooperation, shared responsibility, and mutual aid.
