E67: Exploration of the Arctic, the role of business for our future and The Solo100 Legacy with Mark Wood

Mark Wood is a British explorer who operates within the cold extremes of our planet. In this open conversation, we talked about the role and responsibility explorers have to stand for something more than a great adventure. We need to be the catalyst of change.

And, Mark is doing just that with his upcoming expedition, Solo 100. Mark intends to venture on the vast cold wilderness of the arctic ocean in one of the world’s last uncharted crossings of the remaining sea ice for 100 days and completely unaided.

Throughout this time, he has teamed up with organisations who are positively changing their practices to reduce, and prevent, climate change. The mission is to inspire more companies to do what is best for our planet and demonstrate that doing good also makes business sense.

Mark is a seasoned explorer having led expeditions include guiding film crews to the Magnetic North Pole, leading two expeditions to the Geomagnetic North Pole and completing solo expeditions to both the Geographic North and South Poles.

His own award winning documentaries covered the life of dog teams in Alaska, a solo survival film in the extremes, and a complex cutting edge expedition documentary showing the harsh reality of global warming and its effect on the Arctic Ocean as his team crossed to the North Pole.

Mark is relentless in inspiring the next generation and has created extreme classroom environments on Mount Everest involving over 1.2 million students and is ranked within the top 5 communicators in the world on the Skype platform.
